Life-Guard Named Program of the Year

Our excellence and leadership in emergency transportation was recognized when Life-Guard was named “Program of the Year” by the Association of Air Medical Services. The national award recognizes superior patient care, management and leadership, safety consciousness and community service. Life-Guard was specifically recognized for the “Land the Drone” awareness campaign to reduce the threat of drones in shared air space, and for its work to train air medical staff in Haiti.

Also, a new interactive exhibit telling the history of Life-Guard was installed at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke. Life-Guard became Virginia’s first air ambulance in Virginia in 1981. It has grown from a single-aircraft, stand-alone program to a three-helicopter fleet with bases in Lexington, Radford and Smith Mountain Lake. We can now reach patients in all of Virginia, and parts of West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, covering over 15,000 square miles.
